Zakhar Bron, prizewinner of many important violin competitions such as the International Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels and the Wieniawski Competition in Posen (Poland), was born in Uralsk, (Russia) in 1947. After instruction at the Stoliarski School of Music in Odessa, he continued his musical studies at the Gnessin Conservatory in Moscow with Boris Goldstein. Zakhar Bron completed his musical training at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, studying with Igor Oistrakh whose assistant he became. Zakhar Bron has not only won international renown in the highest circles as a soloist and recorded numerous CDs and records. He has also displayed his extraordinary talent as a pedagogue at schools such as the Glinka Conservatory in Novosibirsk, the College of Music in Luebeck, the Rotterdam Conservatory and the Royal Academies of Music in London and Madrid. His students are regularly winners at the most important international music competitions and several of them, including Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov, Daishin Kashimoto, Mayu Kishima, Michail Ovrutsky, Erik Schumann, Tamaki Kawakubo and Mayuko Kamio, belong to the world elite. Because of his resounding success as a teacher, Zakhar Bron has been invited to judge at almost all the international performance competitions. As a celebrated Russian artist, his dedication and commitment to the arts has been honored by his receiving the highest government commendations granted by Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande) and Poland. He is an honorary professor in Japan, Poland, Bulgaria and Russia and became a professor at the College of Music in Cologne in 1998. He also teaches at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid and the College of Music and Theater in Zurich.
